We will soon offer new, standard Beetle replacment chassis for the Sterling kit.  Options will include the brand new complete front to back chassis with four wheel disc brakes, drop suspension options, dropped floor pans, performance race suspension.  This is still the most popular option for its simplicity, fun, and great price. Many Sterling owners are replacing the VW motors with rotary engines, Subaru engines, modern Ford tuner motors, and the Buick aluminum V6

Solid Sterling of Oregon will no longer be producing the Sterling kit car. A new company Sterling Sports Cars will begin production of the Sterling kits, parts, and accessories at the beginning of 2007. Mike McBride, the owner of Solid Sterling, has been producing the cars for several years and has made many great advances and improvements.  His work has kept the existing cars on the road alive by providing parts and advice to current owners.  Solid Sterling will still provide some parts to its current customers who have already purchased the Sterling kits from them. We appreciate his work and dedication to this unique car.  His goal always retained the philosophy of the Sterling's original inventors from the United Kingdom. To produce a low cost European sports car that was fun to drive.  Over 35 years later the goal still stands.  David Aliberti of Sterling Sport Cars is dedicated to continuing this goal.  First priority is to make more replacement parts available to current owners.  We plan to do this by providing updated solutions on our web site and linking current owners together.

The new year is here and we have been receiving  new e-mails from some long time Sterling owners.  The most exciting was from a guy in California that recently entered his 1970's Sterling into a few auto cross races for the first time.  He actually won first and second place in both races with his mid-engine Sterling.  It is powered by a 6 Cylinder Corvair motor and transaxle and had the original VW front suspension.  I will get more information and images posted soon about this and other cool e-mails.  I will add a questions and answers page too.  This will help answer a few questions.  Regarding the Cars for Sale page, I would be happy to post images of any unique cars for sale.  Please include a description and your contact information that I can just cut and paste.

Show time is fast approaching May 18th-20th  2007 Carlisle Kit/Replicar and import Nationals. Other news, the new dual headlight kit is almost done. I have had many inquires about this option.  It should be out in a few weeks.

The National kit car show last week was a great time. Check out the pictures.  This was our first official show and it was lots of work to make happen.  Thanks to club members, club president Rick M., and a great friend Chris B. it was very successful.  I talked to hundreds of people at the booth throughout the three day event. The new chassis was well received, and the Sterling body that was just pulled fresh from the molds a week earlier was a surprise to many who thought the car did not exist any more.
Overall the quality of engineering and performance of the all the cars at the show goes way up every year.  I'm sorry to tell the Kit Car magazines but the cars aren't kit cars or replicas anymore.  They may have classic bodies with timeless style, but underneath they have modern engineering and sometimes future modern innovations.  Hats off to all the production component car companies that attended.
The camping was great too. It was great to see all the car clubs together in their camping communities on the fair grounds.  It was cool to see a tent behind each car and our camper was in a sea of a thousand little tents.  I just loved the smell of barbecue in the air. Special thanks to all the people that made the long drive many states away to come visit us. We're looking forward to next year and seeing more Sterling owners and Sterling related kits at the show.

THE SHOW WAS GREAT,  The PA Kitcar and Import / Replica show this May was lots of fun.  During the three day event I had a chance to meet almost 20 car owners from surrounding states that were restoring eather a Sterling, Sebring, or Cimbria.  I wish I had time to talk to each owner/customer longer.  All day long I talk to people, unfortunately I did not get to walk the show.  It did rain all day only on Friday and Sunday, But Saturday the weather was great. I was told spectator  numbers were the highest.  I did notice that many smaller competitors were not there.  The big ones were there and bigger then ever.  It amazes me that some companies had two or three car haulers that held up to three cars at a time many had big 18 wheelers with their company logos down the sides.  I of course did hide my small open trailer off in the distance. For the show I mounted a new Sterling body on the new chassis and added new ground effects and it looked great, I was very happy with how it looked. The other kits at the show: GT-40, Lamborghini, Ferrari kits were amazing, the AC Cobras are more innovative each year too.   I already booked the spaces for next years show.  Set your calenders because your all invited to hang out in the booth next year May 15, 16, 17th, 2009. I will plan to have some activities and food on the 16th for club memebrs.  ((show images up soon))

Ok, The Sterling business is now in "summer time" motion.  Its cool to be finally selling some larger replacement parts. I know of about a dozen Sterling rebuilds going on right now in the USA. I know of about a half dozen Sterlings that have changed hands this month too.  A few from the Sambb VW site  http://www.thesamba.com  and Craigslist  http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html
and many local sales including a yard sale find too.  I hope to get photos soon of these rebuilds and post them.  Also please give me time to get through all your e-mails.  Get your parts orders in weeks ahead of time just to be safe.

July 20, 2007
The next style tube chassis we are building will be very close to the tube one we offer. The only difference is that it will be a rear engine setup to be used as replacement  for the original VW chassis on Sterlings. I will have images posted by the end of September. Also sorry, I need more time to answer all the recent e-mails and phone messages.

We have been busy adding many new parts for sale on the web site.

Sep 5 2007

We are still busy adding many new parts for sale on the web site.  If I don't have the part your looking for call and I can find it or a club member may have the part you need.  If customers are interested in saving money on shipping I have a few chassis going to the west coast in a few months. I can ship them and other customers bodies or chassis all at once to save shipping costs for customers.

This must be the slower time of the year for parts.  We are finaly able to get to all the e-mails and back to updating the web site.  There are so many great Sterling/Nova/Sebring/Cimbria related kit builds going on around the world.  I am looking forward to getting the photos up soon. I added a quick video of the the original Sterling tube chassis prototype to www.youtube.com for fun. So check it out and I hope to see other kit owners adding their cars.

Happy holidays and a Happy New Year to all.  I just want to say THANK YOU  for your support and  help in keeping the Sterling/Nova car alive.  It just about fell off the map.  But this past year has proved that now I think we all have finally breathed new life into the cars.  Not only here in the USA but around the world based on the many e-mails and phone calls I have received. We shipped a many new replacement parts all over the world.  There are lots of rebuilds going on in the USA that are spectacular.  I hope to get photos and info by this Spring.  Including a few electric Sterlings being produced.  Special thanks to Rick Milne for his words of wisdom and making the Sterling Club a success.

If you don't want them posted like many that I have received already, that's cool.  I will enjoy them all to my self and talk about them in the owners build section.

June 20  2008

I just completed a new tube chassis set up for a 208 HP VW engine in the rear.  It turned out amazing and I'm happy with the fact that we used 100% brand new parts on the tube chassis. It was a full rolling chassis with shifter, pedals, e-brake, transaxle, and brake lines all installed. It will be ready to ship to Alaska this week.   I am currently getting ready to restore two VW pans with new 4 wheel brakes and drop floor pans. I love working on the classic VW chassis. They are very well engineered and all new upgrade parts are so very affordable. I hope to have pictures soon.

Its finally ready... The new Sterling on-line store. Its a safe quick way to shop. We will be adding new items weekly.  Check it out on our parts page. We are still very busy developing new accessories for the spring too. The new ground effects are complete and are now in testing.  We have the new Sterling exhaust system read with the special heat exchangers built right in, its hot....

Well its been a great year for Sterling Sports Cars. It could have been better in September and October.  But I had more time to spend on innovate and work on new product offerings.  Also I had time to study and improve the quality of the parts and kits.  Thank you everybody, for your support over the past year to keep these cars around. There are dozens of Sterlings, Cimbrias and Sebrings being work on and I really am looking forward to seeing all these unique cars completed. Happy Holidays
